| Product Description | Berberine, also known as berberine, is a quaternary ammonium alkaloid isolated from the traditional Chinese medicine Huanglian, which is the main active ingredient of Huanglian antimicrobial. It is yellow needle-like crystal with bitter taste. It is widely distributed in the plant kingdom, with berberine found in about 10 genera of 4 families. It is 5,6-dihydro-9,10-dimethoxybenzo[g]-1,3-benzodioxolane[5,6-α]quinolizine hydrochloride dihydrate. Properties This product is yellow crystalline powder; odorless, taste very bitter. It is soluble in hot water, slightly soluble in water or ethanol, very slightly soluble in trichloromethane, insoluble in ether. Pharmacological action of antibacterial spectrum, in vitro on a variety of gram-positive and negative bacteria have bacteriostatic effect, including hemolytic streptococcus, aureus, Vibrio cholerae. Meningococcus, Shigella dysentery bacillus, typhoid fever bacillus, diphtheria bacillus, etc. It has strong inhibitory effect in low concentration and bactericidal effect in high concentration. It also has a certain inhibitory effect on influenza virus, amoeba, leptospirosis, and certain skin fungi. In vitro experiments have confirmed that safranin can enhance the phagocytosis of leukocytes and hepatic reticuloendothelial system. Dysentery bacillus, hemolytic streptococcus, aureus and so on are very easy to produce drug resistance to this product. There is no cross-resistance with penicillin and streptomycin. |
